Digital Interview
Record your video answers through the Spark Hire system within a time limit.
"Many people told me they performed poorly in this online interview, mostly because their English wasn't fluent or they weren't used to interviewing online in front of a camera." 1111 Job Bank management trainee interview account
Manager Interview
A 1-on-1 in-depth interview where the interviewer drills into your resume experience:
"Most stages involve heavy questioning about your past internship experience, followed by detailed follow-ups based on your answers. My advice is to know the CV you submitted inside out when preparing, not just know it but remember the details, and being able to give concrete examples or numbers is even better." Medium Unilever marketing internship interview experience
Common questions:
- Why Unilever? Why this department?
- Your biggest setback and how you overcame it
- Deep follow-ups on leadership experience (scale, role, contribution, outcome)
- What did your former manager think of you?
- FMCG product/channel observations (especially valued for marketing roles)
Discovery Centre (Assessment Centre)
A full-day activity and the most critical stage. Based on accounts from multiple past candidates:
Morning (3 to 4 hours): English group case discussion
- About 10 finalists seated around a round table
- The department manager and brand manager observe from the back
- 3 to 4 consecutive English cases, each about 45 minutes (including 10 minutes of reading)
- Candidates run the discussion entirely on their own, while assessors only observe and take notes
- Case topics include: financial statement analysis, new product launch strategy, marketing problems
Afternoon: 1-on-1 English interview (department manager)
Results announced the same day
"Listening to others speak and giving a polished response is more impressive. Summarizing or steering the room are two things fewer people do." Discovery Centre candidate experience
"If possible, try playing every role. You absolutely have to speak up, regardless of your English ability: if you don't express yourself, the assessors have no way to evaluate you." Discovery Centre candidate experience
Career Day Written Test Questions (Customer Development)
Based on an account on PTT's Salary board, the Career Day includes 5 English written questions (1 hour, answerable in Chinese or English):
- What is your career value? How is it related to Unilever?
- Why are you more suitable than others for Unilever?
- How would you increase Unilever's market share?
- If you were the CFO, what would your budget allocation strategy be and how would you verify its effectiveness?
- How would you ensure the sustainability of the finance department?
"The candidates all had strong presence, so remember to stay confident and let HR see your passion and your reasons for why it has to be Unilever." PTT Salary board interview review

Insights From Those Who've Been There
Marketing Internship Interview (4 rounds, about 1 month)
A candidate who landed an AHC/Lipton marketing internship shared the full 4-round process:
- Adecco phone screen: Teams voice call, 1 to 2 English questions
- HR manager interview: motivation questions, deep resume dive, self/other assessment
- Department manager interview: self-introduction plus deep FMCG experience follow-ups plus a take-home assignment (a Nielsen analysis report)
- Department head final interview: self-introduction follow-ups plus an extensive conversation on beverage product knowledge plus a Nielsen analysis presentation
"When applying for a role in a different field, you absolutely must strengthen your motivation. I originally applied for Customer Development, was told by HR that my motivation was insufficient, and only succeeded after switching to apply for Marketing." Medium Unilever marketing internship interview experience
Supply Chain Interview Special Questions
Based on a 1111 Job Bank account, the Supply Chain track asks:
- How would you write a memo for a major disaster? (crisis communication)
- Innovative considerations for forecasting methods (beyond standard approaches)
- The relationship between products and the supply chain
Who This Job Is For
Ideal Traits
- Passion for FMCG: You need to show genuine interest in the consumer goods industry during the interview, including channel observations and product knowledge
- Team spirit: The group discussion at the Discovery Centre is a core assessment, where listening and responding matter more than dominating
- Practical English ability: The digital interview includes English questions, and the assessment center involves full-day English case discussions
- Deep self-awareness: Interviewers will repeatedly probe different facets of the same experience, and vague answers will be exposed
- Leadership potential: As a management trainee program, Unilever expects you to show the potential to lead a team, not just execute
Who Might Not Be a Good Fit
- People with no interest in FMCG: The interview heavily tests your awareness of and passion for the consumer goods market
- People who are only good at written tests: The assessment center is entirely interactive, with no chance to "write a good answer"
- People unwilling to prepare their CV deeply: Drill-down questioning is a hallmark of the Unilever interview, and being unclear on details puts you at a serious disadvantage
